Use the present perfect. In my case, I\u2019ve lived in this house since 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Now talk about a place you lived in the past, but you don\u2019t live there anymore, using the simple past. In my case, I lived in the city of Salvador in Brazil for about seven years \u2013 from 2009-2016.<\/p>\n<p>When we\u2019re talking about actions that started in the past and continue to the present, we can actually use the present perfect simple or the present perfect continuous:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>I\u2019ve taught<\/strong> English for 13 years.<\/li>\n<li><strong>= I\u2019ve been teaching<\/strong> English for 13 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How about you? How long have you been studying English? Compare these sentences:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>I\u2019ve seen<\/strong> that movie.<br \/>\n<em>(I\u2019ve seen it sometime in the past, but I don\u2019t say when &#8211; present perfect)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>I saw<\/strong> that movie last week.<br \/>\n<em>(I say specifically when I saw it &#8211; past simple)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When we\u2019re talking about single events at an unspecified time in the past, then we only use the present perfect simple, not the present perfect continuous form.<\/p>\n<p>Another example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>She<strong> has changed<\/strong> jobs several times during her career.<br \/>\n<em>(single events at unspecified times in the past)<\/em><\/li>\n<li>She <strong>changed<\/strong> jobs in 2006, 2012, and 2021.<br \/>\n<em>(single events at specific times in the past)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now it\u2019s your turn \u2013 first, use the present perfect to talk about something you\u2019ve done sometime in your life, but don\u2019t say when.
