is optional after &#8220;say&#8221;:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bob\u00a0<strong>said<\/strong> he was happy.<\/li>\n<li>Bob\u00a0<strong>said that<\/strong> he was happy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Avoid this common error: Bob <strong>said me<\/strong> that he was happy.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>tell + someone + (that)<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><em>After the word &#8220;tell,&#8221; something, it means you acknowledge a mistake or an unpleasant fact.<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He\u00a0<strong>admitted that\u00a0<\/strong>he&#8217;d stolen the money.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>argue + that \/ argue + about<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><em>The word &#8220;argue&#8221; can mean to try to persuade other people that your opinion is correct &#8211; as in the first example &#8211; or it can mean to have an angry verbal conflict &#8211; as in the second example.<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The lawyer\u00a0<strong>argued that\u00a0<\/strong>his client didn&#8217;t know he was breaking the law.<\/li>\n<li>My parents are\u00a0<strong>arguing about\u00a0<\/strong>where to spend our family vacation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>agree + that<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>The boss\u00a0<strong>agreed that\u00a0<\/strong>we should invest more in employee training.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Avoid this common error:\u00a0<strong>I&#8217;m agree.\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The correct sentence is &#8220;I agree&#8221; (more common) or &#8220;I&#8217;m in agreement&#8221; (more formal).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>claim + (that)<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><em>We use the verb &#8220;claim&#8221;
