Someone who is\u00a0<strong>stingy\u00a0<\/strong>doesn&#8217;t like to spend or give money, even in situations where they should.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>She&#8217;s so\u00a0<strong>stingy\u00a0<\/strong>that she doesn&#8217;t even buy birthday gifts for her own mother.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>4.\u00a0obnoxious<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The negative word <strong>obnoxious\u00a0<\/strong>is another way to say\u00a0<strong>very annoying.\u00a0<\/strong>You can describe a thing, a person, or someone&#8217;s behavior as obnoxious.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>My boyfriend&#8217;s cell phone beeps every\u00a0time he gets a message; it happens several\u00a0times a minute and it&#8217;s so\u00a0<strong>obnoxious!<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>5. dysfunctional<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Dysfunctional <\/strong>is a negative word describing something that doesn&#8217;t function properly; it is usually used for relationships or families that have unhealthy habits of interacting in ways that are not normal or positive.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Sarah\u00a0has a\u00a0<strong>dysfunctional\u00a0<\/strong>relationship with her\u00a0father, who wants to control every aspect of her\u00a0life.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>6. spoiled<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>When used about food, the negative adjective <strong>spoiled\u00a0<\/strong>means the food has gone bad; it is no longer suitable for eating. When used to describe a person (especially a child), it means the person usually gets everything they want and always expects this to happen.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Ugh, my coffee tastes awful. I think the milk I put in it was\u00a0<strong>spoiled.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Timmy is a\u00a0<strong>spoiled\u00a0<\/strong>little boy who screams his parents if they don&#8217;t buy him candy.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>7. slimy<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Slimy <\/strong>is a negative word used to describe something with an unpleasant wet, slippery, texture. Worms and snails are slimy. This adjective can also be used to describe a person who is dishonest, but tries to hide it and be likeable.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The riverbank was covered with\u00a0<strong>slimy\u00a0<\/strong>mud.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t like\u00a0<strong>slimy\u00a0<\/strong>salespeople who try to get you to buy things you don&#8217;t really need.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>8.\u00a0callous<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>A person who is\u00a0<strong>callous\u00a0<\/strong>doesn&#8217;t appear to\u00a0have feelings\u00a0or care about emotions.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>How can you be so\u00a0<strong>callous\u00a0<\/strong>when people are suffering?!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>9. dreary<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The negative adjective <strong>dreary\u00a0<\/strong>means something is boring, dark, and depressing. It is often used to talk about\u00a0the weather, but can also be used to describe places, tasks, and events.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It wasn&#8217;t the best weekend for camping; the weather was\u00a0<strong>dreary.\u00a0<\/strong>We didn&#8217;t see the sun for three days.<\/p>\n<p>I grew up in a\u00a0<strong>dreary,\u00a0<\/strong>run-down neighborhood that I couldn&#8217;t wait to leave.<br \/>\n<em>(run-down = not well maintained)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>10. petty<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Our final negative word is <strong>petty. <\/strong>A person who is <strong>petty\u00a0<\/strong>places great importance on small problems, leading to conflict and bad feelings.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>My sister&#8217;s rather\u00a0<strong>petty.\u00a0<\/strong>She gets mad at me if I don&#8217;t return her texts right away.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>Negative Adjectives: Review<\/h3>\n<p>Let&#8217;s review these negative words by seeing which ones can be used to describe situations or things vs. which ones are used to describe people.
